Sahaja Yoga Experiences

I am 35 year old male who has been practicing Sahaja Yoga for over three years
now and I wanted to share my experiences with Sahaja Yoga because it has had
such a positive and incredible effect on my life.  These are my experiences.

I was raised as a Christian and had a good childhood and would say that life has
always been pretty good to me - no complaints.  I was introduced to Sahaja Yoga
by a family member who had been practising for many years.  I received my self
realization approximately three years ago and my life has begun to change ever
since.  I initially never felt much when I received my self realization.  Before I started
practicing Sahaja Yoga I was always interested to learn about it.  I tried to meditate
a couple of times but still never really felt much.  Then a few months later I was
determined to feel something - so I started meditating every night.  I never felt much
for about the first few nights.  Then after a few nights during meditation I felt the
Kundalini rise from the bottom of my spine slowly like a wave and stop at my neck
(at my Vishhuddi chakra where i had a lot of blockages).  The kundalini rose with
such a force and significance it was incredible.  It was the most beautiful experience
of my entire life.  I actually had tears in my eyes because it was so beautiful, and I'm
not the type of person to cry.  I don't know how to describe it - they were tears from
the beauty of it.  From that point forward my life had begun to change for the better
- my second birth - my true baptism had taken place.

What has Sahaja Yoga done for me.  In short - everything.  It's given me inner
peace, love, awareness, more energy, confidence and JOY (undescribable joy).
Let me talk about each of these briefly.

Inner Peace and Love.  Sahaja Yoga has given me such an incredible sense of
inner peace.  It has helped me in finding inner peace.  It has also given me an
incredible sense of love for everything and everyone.  Prior to my self realization,
strangers were simply strangers to me.  Now I feel love for actual strangers - they're
like brothers and sisters to me.  This love comes from the inside (one of the
beautiful things which happens when you start to clear your heart chakra and it
becomes enlightened).  I never thought this could be possible but it is.

Awareness.  Sahaja Yoga has given me such an incredible sense of awareness.
I've become aware of so many things.  Prior to my self realization, I use to drink
alcohol and swear quite a bit.  Right after my self realization I completely stopped
drinking and swearing.  I realized it was wrong and I had no desire to drink or swear
whatsoever.  This awareness all came from the inside and it improved over time
through meditation.  It didn't come from anything I read or was told.  I also became
aware and learned the state of my subtle system.  You can feel the state of your
subtle system through the tingling on your fingertips when you meditate.  Each
finger corresponds to a specific chakra.  If a specific finger is tingling you know
there is a blockage on that specific chakra. You know which chakras are blocked
and which ones are not.  With this knowledge you learn techniques to clear your
chakras (meditate) and stop the behaviour which caused the blockages in the first
place.  You also become much more aware of what is right or wrong.  You actually
become a better person.  I've become aware of and learned so many through
Sahaja Yoga and the teachings of Shri Mataji.  The talks and lectures she gives are
absolutely amazing.  I've also become more forgiving, compassionate and humble.
Prior to Sahaja Yoga meditation I used to be quite attached to material possessions
and money.  I still am a little bit but not like before - I've become aware of how
meaningless these things are.  The thing is you don't realize how meaningless
these things are until after you get your self realization and start meditating.

Energy.  Sahaja Yoga mediation has given me a great deal more energy.  Prior to
my self realization I would describe my energy levels as poor.   I was always a laid
back and mellow person.   I'm still a laid back person but have a great deal more
energy.  How does a person get more energy through meditation? What happens
after you get your self realization is that when you meditate the kundalini rises.  The
kundalini energy clears the blockages you have in your chakras.  Chakras are
energy centres which spin in a clockwise rotation.  The cleaner your chakras, the
faster they will spin and the more energy your chakras will provide to your body and
organs.  I feel much more energetic today.  I also have much better mental clarity.
I can remember things better and perform mental tasks much better.

Finding Joy.   Sahaja Yoga has given me a great deal of joy.  This joy comes from
the inside out of nothing - for no reason whatsoever.   It's difficult to describe these
experiences but I'll attempt to.   It's a pure bliss and so beautiful that its difficult to
describe in words.   It's a high - you're just so full of joy and energy it's incredible.
These instances of joy do not happen all the time for me (although it is possible).
For the first week after my kundalini rose I had some beautiful experiences.   During
this week I was full of joy and bliss for the whole week - when I listened to music I
could feel it in my heart.  I could feel every beat and rythm inside of me - it's very
difficult to describe but it was just incredibly beautiful to listen to music.  I also
noticed that I became a little more creative - nothing extreme but I noticed that I
could draw pictures better than before. After this initial first week I still have these
episodes of joy, they just don't occur all the time like they did the first week -
sometimes I experience it periodically a little bit every day for a few days and
sometimes I won't experience it for another few weeks.  It occurs at no specific time
and the intensities and length usually vary as well.  Usually I'll just be doing nothing
and it happens, a lot of times it happens when I'm listening to music.  Music is
definitely a catalyst for this joy - good music that hits your soul.  I also noticed that
these moments of joy occur when I'm not thinking of anything.  I've never really had
many moments of this joy when I'm at work because I'm busy using my brain.  They
usually occur when I'm finished work listening to music or at home after work or on
weekends when my mind is clear - not really thinking of anything.  Usually when
people talk about happiness they think it relates to specific circumstances.  They
believe if they have a big house or a lot of money they'll be happy or if a specific
circumstance occurs they'll be happy.  Not true.  It all depends on the state of your
subtle system (the state of your chakras) - it's all inside you.   Joy and happiness
are two different things to me.  Happiness is contentment.   Joy is that high you get.
Happiness I had prior to my self-realization - I had periods of happiness,
sometimes sadness, mostly just regular -content- like most people.  After
self-realization I became a much happier person.  Joy - I never knew prior to my self
realization - I didn't think it was humanly possible.  What gives you this joy?  The
kundalini does.   I've experienced many beautiful and joyful moments - not in my
wildest dreams did I ever believe this was possible.  I'm a much happier person
today - life becomes better - joyous, something to look forward to every single day.

Confidence.  Sahaja Yoga has given me a great deal more confidence.  Prior to
my self-realization I would describe myself as introverted and somewhat shy.
Nothing extreme but definately on the introverted side.  One particular area I always
had trouble with was public speaking.  I always had a great fear of public speaking
and would try to avoid these situations at all costs.  To give you an example while I
was in university and I enrolled in a particular course and found out during the first
class that you had to do presentations I would drop the course and take another
one where presentations were not required.  Any time it was a mandatory course I
would get extremely nervous before and during the presentation.  In order to help
me get through these presentations I would drink alcohol prior to the presentation.
I would usually drink about a half litre of wine about an hour prior to my
presentation.  This was just enough to give me the confidence I needed as well as
not too much so nobody would notice I had been drinking.  After my self-realization I
began to develop confidence and security - this is one of the beautiful things which
happens to you once you begin to clear your heart chakra and it becomes
enlightened - you become confident and fearless.   Alcohol is never a part of my life
now and when I do presentations now I am completely confident.

The beauty of Sahaja Yoga meditation is you change from the inside.  You don't
need blind faith.  Everything you learn in Sahaja Yoga you will experience.  You will
experience the truth.  The first step is self realization - the initial raising of the
kundalini - this enlightens your subtle system.  Then you start attending the classes
in order to learn about the subtle system, how to meditate and the beauty and truth
about Sahaja Yoga. Going to classes also allows you to be collective.  Your
meditations will be much better when you meditate in a group as opposed to when
you meditate by yourself.  Then you mediate daily - this is how your personal
spiritual growth and awareness takes place. When you meditate your kundalini
rises and clears any obstructions you may have on your chakras - the cleaner your
chakras the better you will feel.  The most difficult part is trying to convince
someone that all this is possible.   How do you convince someone that all this
beauty is possible and that in order to achieve this beauty and to grow spiritually
you need your self-realization and you need to meditate.  It's very difficult because
they've been so conditioned to think a certain way and not accept any other ways.
The beauty is all you have to do is try it and you will see for yourself that it is
possible.  I've found that certain things have helped me when I first stared out and
through my progression.

Patience - Things take time - be patient.  You will progressively feel better as you
meditate over time.

Faith - Faith is so important.  If your lacking faith - ask for it during meditation

Stay Focused - It's easy to get sidetracked in life.

Open Mind - This is so important.  Conditioning makes it difficult for us to try and
accept something new.

I often say to myself that my life has become a miracle.  It's not a miracle - this is
available and possible for everyone.  I'm just a regular guy who's made a lot of
mistakes and errors in my life.   I view my life now in two stages - my life prior to
Sahaja Yoga - regular, completely unaware - and my life after Sahaja Yoga - full of
peace, awareness, love and JOY - my second birth - my enlightenment!  Thank
You Shri Mataji!
